All of us in funeral service have used the classic "Serenity Prayer" in one context or another. Very often those words appear on prayer cards or other mementos, a truly classic expression.

According to this New York Times Article, the prayer's origins may go back further than previously understood by the documentors of quotations. They use the word "controversy" though it sounds more like a clarification that Reinhold Niebuhr who supposedly drafted the prayer, may have developed it out of existing phrases and ideas circulating at the time.
