Rebecca Mead, author of the book One Perfect Day which provides a consumer advocate overview of the wedding industry (see earlier posting here), can also help us see funeral service from a different perspective.
I don't usually hear a National Public Radio program called the Diane Rehm show which broadcasts out of WAMU radio in Washington, DC. However, I couldn't sleep last night and happened to hear an interview of Ms. Mead as she talked about some of the findings she had detailed in her new book.
If you listen closely, you will hear some of the same social change and profitability themes we tend to talk about in funeral service. You will also hear a different kind of consumer advocate talk about the need for informed consumers making wedding decisions because of the "tactics" which wedding vendor's use to create maximum sales, some legit, some kinda shady. Sound familiar?
Here's the link to the MP3 audio. Please keep in mind this file is about 24 Mb. You should have a broadband connection and some sort of audio program (such as iTunes or Windows Media Player) installed on your computer to listen to the program.
